This speaks to me the same way. She may be my mother, and I may just be the luckiest woman on earth. I am so proud of her and her accomplishments. I look at the pendant she is wearing here; she handed it down to me. I will wear it someday. It has a stone missing. I’m hoping I’ll find a jeweler who can take care of that for me.

She is a symbol of immense sincerity, very serene. I can almost see her asking my grandfather that she wanted to go to medical school very wholeheartedly. She had merit working for her, but Granddad could not sponsor a fifth child; the four boys were still in college. Disheartened and limited by funds, not by motivation, she pursued a degree that was affordable to her parents, and she did not let herself feel discouraged. Disappointed, yes, because she shared that secret desire to me one day, and I have since then held that promise that I will not allow funds to prohibit myself from learning. You can work yourself into a great education no matter how privileged or not you are.
